On “Gamer-entitlement” : Two-sided-Coin

There have been an influx of notions from the game developers, claiming that their gamers are entitled. As a gamer; I feel I have to share my own opinion on the matter; an other side of that coin, so to speak.

Things are never purely black & white. People got used to dealing in absolutes; as if the options available were only ‘my way or highway’ or that no other color-shades than black & white existed.

Let me tell you straight off – It’s bad, damaging & it closes conversations/communication. In some extreme cases, it seems like the game devs & the community have entered a war. Unnecessary, pointless conflict, which shouldn’t even exist in the first place.

Rant: On ‘best’ Star Trek & choices

Here’s almost taboo question among Star Trek fans, that is, unless you want to incite flames – Best Star Trek, what is Trek and what is not? A heated discussion among the Star Trek fans, whenever this even pops up. It’s as if you said to a Klingon that his mother’s forehead was smooth. That kind of bad.

Since the announcement of the new Star Trek Online expansion, and spanning well-over the past two years, there’s always been this notion of what is and what isn’t Star Trek among the community. People going off the rails, getting all riled up, if someone only disagreed with their opinon on that topic. This turns quite often in very toxic discussions, making for quite unfriendly environment for everyone involved. Is it necessary?

Skill Revamp – Grounder’s Overview

Close Combat Specialist, that is fun for me.

There’s been a skill-revamp down on Tribble tonight. As it is with my nature, I tend to want to jump in and get to know the changes before they hit the live server, and if possible,  help address the issues.

I am only going to comment on Ground, since me commenting on Space would be like asking a vegetarian to pass comments on how good a steak was. 😛 😀

EDIT 22nd Feb – Apparently, there WAS misunderstanding, at least after today’s Tribble patch, the culprit which made me freak out; does not seem to be entirely present; as I found out after more extensive testing. I do not know if they fixed it, or if it was this way since the revamp, as the passive Regen did 0 on me in Combat previously – and in the end, it doesn’t matter; I’m not above saying ‘I am sorry, I overreacted/was mistaken’ and as such, that’s what I say & mean. I am sorry. Being a person of passion can turn me into overzealous idiot at times. I’ll go sound the fail-horn for myself.

The wording in the skill in question, however,  COULD be better. I’ll explain below.
Now, onto the overview itself.

Wasted potential? Admiralty System reviewed.

Season 11 & Admiralty System

Season 11 in Star Trek Online gave us an “Admiralty” system. It’s an equivalent of duty-officer system, except, the players get to use their ships for the ‘assignments’. So, what does it mean in reality? I could perhaps say ‘Doffing, with ship doff-cards’ and be done with it, but let’s look into it some more…

Rant: RE: “Skimpy Mirror uniforms for females – IT’S CANON”

This is SPART… erm, sorry.. CANOOOOON!

Here goes another funny one. With Season 11, & subsequently, Mirror Universe plot, there’s a new version of the skimpy & blatantly sexualized Mirror Universe “uniform” for females coming – so far, only seen on NPCs, though. Of course, someone already had asked, if said outfit will be available to the players. Naturally. Certain types always looking for more ways to whore-bag their all-female away teams & female characters, especially those who are not familiar with certain “magic”, and can’t skimp out their females by adding the metal-bikini normally restricted for Orions.

Rant mode on.

Rant: “Re: Things Out of Place” – ERP & Nude, metal-bikini in STO

Needs a “bleached” version for moar relevance nowadays. Still a winner.

There was a discussion on the Star Trek Online forums, as to what is “Out of place” in the game. Alright, I might have several objections, such as unnecessary grind, some illogical decisions, but one in particular, I didn’t mention, even though it indirectly is about a long-standing pet peeve of mine, of people portraying their unfulfilled sexual fantasies throughout their characters, namely, the female characters & sexualizing the shit out of their appearances. Why? Because they can.

NOTE: This may come out as harsh, it also contains swear-words, so if you get butthurt easily, don’t read further. You’ve been warned.

Status Report on the Operational Support Team

Conversations with the Lootcritter

Update Interview with @LaughingTrendy

AKA #BugSmasher Initiative

Back on August 21st 2015 we reported on the start of the Operational Support Team initiative driven by @LaughingTrendy, a player-supported bug reporting and dev-managed application process. What sets this apart from previous efforts is that the developers are actively experiencing and watching the issues as they happen, while the reporting players have been given access to a formal reporting process and private blog.

The effort is very horizontal impacting players from role players to the DPS crowd. And it’s something every player wants to know more about.

In our initial report, we saw rapid changes and a few role-backs. Since that time the Bugsmasher teams have been relatively quiet, and the process has been protected (for many reasons) behind a private forum. @LaughingTrendy took the time to answer a few questions to bring us up to speed on their process.

“Midnight” Review – Roleplayer’s Side

Finally getting to the review of the Iconian War finale, mission Midnight. As some of my more regular readers and followers know, I wasn’t a fan of the Iconian-thingy at all – especially not with the whole premise of “Something happened – Iconians”, when literally 99% of things in Star Trek Online happened because of them.

Alas, I don’t intend to critisize much this time. As credit is given when it’s due, and praise thrown; such is the nature of a critic and person passionate about something, that is me. I will spit it out outright – I loved “Midnight”. That being said, let’s get into the more indepth review, without spoiling much, although, it’s inevitable, so do not proceed further if you don’t want to read spoilers.
